We also had an international meeting through skype with the students from Portugal and Italy. We sang Christmas songs and exchanged Christmas wishes.

Christmas in Portugal

In Portugal Christmas is a huge celebration. It is one of the most important traditions if not the most important. In fact, almost everyone celebrates it and and the most relevant aspect of it is the family gathering.

The most traditional meal is in the evening of Christmas Eve rather than on Christmas Day and the meal consists of codfish with green vegetables and boiled potatoes and can be followed by wild meats, shellfish or octopus. There is a great variety of desserts.

It is believed that Father Christmas brings the presents. In the past people believed it was Jesus who bring the gifts.

At home families decorate the Christmas tree and the streets are filled with amazing colours and beautiful lights.

At school the spirit of Christmas is also felt: decorations, cards and carols are the most common. Due to our project our Christmas was more international and interesting because students and teachers had the opportunity to elaborate and exchange Christmas Cards, traditions and videoconference calls.
